Fresh Eyes is a small web studio run by Byron and Tanja. This notice explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it, as the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) requires.

Who we are

The responsible party is Byron Leppan, a sole proprietor trading as Fresh Eyes in South Africa. Byron is also our information officer. The quickest way to reach us is on WhatsApp.

What we collect

  • When you send us your web address: the address, and the information already published on your website, Google Business Profile or social pages, such as your business name, contact details, opening hours, photos and text.
  • When you message us on WhatsApp: your name and number as WhatsApp shows them, and whatever you tell us.
  • When you open your preview: that you opened it, when, and the kind of device (for example, an iPhone), so we know when you’ve had a look. We don’t keep your IP address or browser details.
  • When you become a customer: the details we need to invoice you, such as your name, business name, email address and payment references. You pay by EFT, so we never see your card.
  • When you visit this site: anonymous statistics from Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights, such as pages viewed, country, device type and page speed. They don’t use cookies and don’t identify you.

Why we use it

To make your preview, talk to you about it, and, if you sign up, run and bill your website. We also use site statistics to keep this site working well. We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t use it for anyone else’s marketing. We only message you after you’ve messaged us first, or about your service once you’re a customer.

Who else handles it

We use a few service providers to do the work: Vercel hosts this site and our customers’ sites, Meta runs WhatsApp, and software and AI providers such as Anthropic help us build previews. Some of them are outside South Africa. We only use providers bound by data protection terms that give protection comparable to POPIA.

How long we keep it

  • Previews, and the information we gathered to make them, are deleted 30 days after we send the preview if you don’t keep it.
  • WhatsApp conversations, and notes of when you opened your preview, are kept while we’re talking, and deleted within 12 months if you don’t become a customer.
  • Customer and billing records are kept for five years after you leave, because tax law requires it.

Keeping it safe

Only Byron and Tanja have access to your information. We use providers with strong security, and we tell you and the Information Regulator if we ever believe your information has been accessed without permission.

Your rights

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, or withdraw your consent at any time. Send us a message and we’ll reply as soon as we can, and within 30 days. If you’re not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za.

Cookies

This site doesn’t set cookies for tracking or advertising. Your browser remembers whether you’ve already seen the opening animation, and that stays on your device.

Changes

If we change how we handle personal information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
